Emirates NBD Careers – Legal Counsel

Job Description:

  • Support the Senior Counsel with arbitration & litigation matters within Emirates NBD Group locally and regionally as assigned by the Senior Counsel
  • Responsible for leading and managing the junior members of the team
  • Support the Senior Counsel on any FRR related cases and support on any restructuring, refinancing settlement agreements
  • Together with external, counsel locally, regionally and internationally, responsible for ensuring that any arbitration and litigation matters are handled effectively & efficiently with zero or minimal reputational damage to the Bank.
  • Responsible for assisting and supporting the Senior Counsel in ensuring preventative methodologies are addressed, documented and communicated across the business
  • Responsible for the activities within the PLA unit including lead and manage the PLA team

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review any settlement agreements prior to sign off by FRR & customers
  • Assist in creating a comprehensive MI reporting system on all pending, on-going and new cases on a monthly/weekly/quarterly manner for management submission in conjunction with Senior Counsel
  • Support the Senior Counsel in guiding & advising corporate & business units on preventative methodologies and monitor its implementation in conjunction with other units within Group Legal
    Prepare and action pleadings, legal responses, opinions and other material related to litigation/arbitration and potential litigation/arbitration in conjunction with the Senior Counsel
  • Assist & support in successfully carry out negotiations directly or in conjunction with external counsel & relevant departments such as FRR and resolve cases prior to litigation/arbitration
  • Provide support in investigation, review & monitoring of potential, pending, on-going & new disputes as assigned by the Senior Counsel
  • Work together with external counsel regarding necessary court litigation action as needed both locally, regionally and internationally
  • Coordinate with internal departments & international units to gather all relevant documentation for necessary action
  • Lead, motivate and guide the team ensuring that its members fulfil the roles assigned to them
  • Assist & support in provide adequate, professional legal support to the FRR unit by guiding and advising on necessary actions to be taken when discussing and agreeing settlement cases to minimize further financial losses to the Bank
  • Participate in continuous skills/knowledge improvement of the team through shared learning
  • Regular monitoring of all cases with external legal counsel locally & internationally
  • Provide assistance & support on any insolvency proceedings in conjunction with Senior Counsel, external counsel & FRR team and liaise with the necessary external and internal units

Qualification & Experience:

  • Market & industry
  • Must have local/regional arbitration & litigation exposure with a special emphasis in banking & financial services field
  • Oral & Written communication
  • Organizational policies
  • Specialist expertise
  • International arbitration & litigation experience a plus
  • Degree in LLB/LLM and/or Diploma in Legal practice
  • Team leadership
  • Certified/ qualified Solicitor/Lawyer
  • Must have over 4-6+ years of post-qualification legal advisory experience within a legal firm or as an in-house legal counsel
